Harvey Bradbury leaves the club

Good news for Aaron McCreadie

Agree @tatabanya , it is a huge shame Harvey Bradbury has been dispensed with ...although he's young and raw, when ive seen him play, he reminded me very much of an old fashioned centre forward, unsettling defenders (constantly), put himself about, with no fear of getting stuck in and battling hard... and knew where the goal is and how to score goals too - good luck to him in the future, the decision to let young Bradbury go may well come back to haunt us!

As a general point, one Ive expressed previously too, farming young prospects out often is sadly the start of the death knell to their time at OUFC, for a plethora of factors too.... Id much prefer exciting youngsters coming through the ranks to stay 'in house' and earn first-team squad places/appearances, instead of being punted out to random non league cloggers who's managers have very different ideas on how young players development should be shaped, especially in comparison to what is becoming the OUFC way, with U18s and U23s, both playing exciting, fast flowing, attacking football.

Have to say, possibly the only thing I do trust at the minute is Dan Harris and all he is doing with the academy.

I wonder if we see further U23 additions this summer plus U18s stepping up.

theres been 6 of our youngsters 'let go' in under 7 days .... hmmmm

Wow!

Though HB was one for the future!
you n me both .... especially as he seemed to be a natural for the lone striker/ one up top role that KR, n his advisors/ coaching team, prefer.

maybe a(nother) behind the scenes personality clash between a coach and a younger player????

Good luck to him. Always felt like a punt at desperate times for a blunt instrument. I suspect he might not have the technical skill to be seen as viable in the third tier.

We saw him once at L1 level. He ran around lots, was aggressive but hardly touched the ball and when he did his touch was poor vs Dan Harris, oft lauded as one of the best things about the current setup at OUFC, who saw him many times, at a much lower level.

I know it's madness to think this, but perhaps Dan has more available data with which to make the decision than Bradbury's Adoring Hoards?

Or maybe that he wasn't deemed good enough - not everything has to fit the agenda
fair viewpoint @Finlandia .... though having seen him play for the U23s more than a few times, albeit young and raw, he looked to me likley to become the kind of lone striker that would be ideal for the current OUFC set up, and I for one did like his fearless, take no-prisoners style of playing

though Im not claiming to be anything other than an OUFC supporter who likes seeing young talent come through the ranks ...and certainly not with any aspirations (or ability) in managing or coaching players ;)

in Dan Harris we (should) trust ... I agree @OxfordYankee :)

But as many have our fans have already said this season about the Sam Smiths (Under 23) not being good enough at a higher level, we can't be using our U23's as benchmark to progress to our first team

square pegs in round holes sometimes applies , with players told to play in a system that doesnt suit their natural way of playing, depending on the first team coaches and style of play that they prefer and impose? .... alternatively perhaps OUFC should scrap the U23s as a way to develop potential talent and rely on journeymen loanees no-one else wants? :sneaky:

No that's not what I said - the U23's are a great place for our juniors to develop. However, the gulf is huge t the first team, and a few promising performances do not warrant the overpraising some of the players have had. Only a tiny percentage ever make it - if you are good enough you will make it.

This is normal at every club - its a shame that it's being used as a stick to beat the club with.

This will happen every year Sarge.
Many have been kept on. I doubt if we have ever had as many young players signing professional contracts at a young age.
The clubs building of the youth has been excellent but that doesn't mean that every years players won't leave.

.....And???
Happens every season at this stage - with or without the Devs. If anything I'd say we've signed more 1st year pros this year than for a long time, and even accounting for some perhaps just blooding out the U23s, I'd still say the number set to grow into the senior squad (in time) is as high as ever.

I am not surprised.
I went to watch the U23s play at Thame v Hull.
Bradbury was a substitute who came on near the end
He has been on the bench for Woking I believe.
I suspect that the club want players in the U23s who will seriously challenge for the first team. As a striker they need to be first choice for the U23s and able to easily get into Wokings team.

Totally agree Mooro.
Lopez, Spasov, James, Jones, Elechi, Heap, Little.
Lots of very promising youngsters

how does having a personal opinion on a youngster being let go become a stick to beat the club with?

guess I mistakenly thought a forum was where various and varied opinons are exchanged .... as in you have an opinion that differs from mine, mine is from being dissapointed to hear a young player who I, as a layman, but OUFC supporter, have seen play a number of times for U23s, and all but one occasion , I thought he was a decent prospect?

players at all levels are let go at all levels at all clubs, have been for many years and will continue to for the forseeable future too. Think my disappointment in Bradbury being let go has perhaps not come across the way intended ?

good luck to Harvey Bradbury for the future... and the other 6 that didnt quite make the grade this week too

and yes there seems to be an abundance of talented youngsters at U18 & U23 level currently.... Ive had the pleasure of watching many of them play as U18s and as U23s this season

Lofthouse is another-amongst others too, -in the last 2 U18s games I've seen he's scored a brace in each....he seems to have a bit of a natural goal scoring ability
