When did players start applauding the fans?

It hasn’t always been the case. Did one group of players or a particular club start doing it?

Goalkeepers have often acknowledged/applauded fans as they ran towards the goal before kickoff.

Now we have players, managers, coaches applauding fans before and after the games.

Players applaud all corners of the ground after being substituted. When did that start?

When did fans stat taking offence if players didn’t applaud them?

think it...players applauding fans was slowly 'imported' from European football ... does that mean come March 29th players will stop applauding fans after Brexit kicks in? (if indeed it , Brexit does kick in on March 29th!)... after all regaining sovereignty includes dispensing with all those things johnny foreigner has imposed against our will , like players applauding fans and the like :sneaky:;)

After March 29th there will be a draft bill put before Parliament,to propose the cessation of said practise.
The vote will be split and result in the formation of the “ Anti Clap” party, support for which will grow to such a level that the then government, feeling threatened by the new party, will call for a referendum to decide whether its clap or no clap.
There will be a record turnout and the result will be 52% to 48% in favour of no clap.
There will then follow almost 3 years of debate , with many false claims from both sides.
The Pro Clappers will use team buses to advertise there claim, that the energy generated by 350 claps per game will be donated to the national grid, whilst the pro clappers will claim that the number of claps is greatly exaggerated and in any case, after advice from Tesla, deem that there is no way the energy can in fact be stored for later use.
Because clapping is paramount to the success of football on the island if Ireland, a backstop will be introduced to ensure continuity.
And so on.

There was a minute of clapping before the last home game and most people didn’t know what they were clapping for! ;)

Utter claptrap

It is the sort of thing the H&S superintendent would ban at the end of game as they probably consider it is a danger to the supporters walking down the steps of the stands!!
