It amazes me that just because a player scores a few goals in some obscure league that he can suddenly play in league 1.
I am sure that the club would be aware of him.

I scored over 200 over 8 seasons for the fans' team - perhaps I should turn up for a trial?

Ok so I'm 45 now but the first yard is in the head.........experience counts for a lot :)

I see there is an awful lot of stupidity on this forum from so called grown adults and lots of negativity. Wallop he has done it at a very hign level for years as a youth check out his stats for oxford city u18's and the county. Where he has won everything, no wonder our own home grown lads don't get a look in we seem to look elsewhere. I'm confident he will go on to be a pro so he is currently at north leigh semi pro level first season in mens football and top scorer for them with 14 I believe already and there struggling as a team I wish him and all our young lads the best. If your not given a chance how can you prove to be good enough???just asking anyway have a great day

There are hundreds of kids who set the world alight in junior football but never take the step up into having a decent footballing career.

Everyone on here would love to see a local lad succeed, and those who do join the club are always supported.

BUT that doesn't mean that every 18 year old in Oxfordshire should be snapped up because they've scored a few for North Leigh.

I appreciate that you are the player/friends/family/concerned stranger, but that counts for nothing in the professional game. Hassle the club, ask for a trial or just get your/his head down and keep scoring. But whining on here is entirely pointless and just make it look a little desperate.

I'm not whining buddy I'm replying to a few so called fans who write nonsense as above and I'm not actually anything to do with him ive seen him at north leigh different class mate and as you said he will just have to keep scoring I guess which he seems to do rather a lot.

Those "so called fans" you talk of, are only interested in Oxford United and not North Leigh, Bicester Town, Brackley or Abingdon United!! They are not scouts, they do not have any link to the club. So why should they care for this kid any more than a dozen others who are performing the same or better?

If he's good enough, he'll make it. If he isn't, he won't. A football forum will change nothing, buddy!

I agree with some of your points scotch egg! neither do I, as a fan I don't see how or why we haven't bought through any young strikers to the first team since Jamie brooks? can you atleast agree with that.....shocking considering the amount of money which goes into the academy....and only a handful of first teamers.

If a club thought that he had a chance then one of them would pick him up.
Very few players at that level would be able to make the step up.
If you are good enough you come through, most of them don't.

Aaron Woodley (did ok for Oxford City on loan at a higher level than North Leigh) was given the chance as was Ty Marsh, Matty Taylor (he was even brought back after scoring at a local level), James Roberts, Alex Fisher and we have just given a pro contract to Slavi Spasov on top of the contract given to Dejon Noel-Williams in the summer. On top of that we signed Harvey Bradbury and Brandon Taverner on pro contracts for the u23s in the summer. Only a small number of players ultimately make it at their original club and have to work their way back up like Alex Fisher (Yeovil), Ty Marsh (Macclesfield), and Matty Taylor (Bristol CIty).

Part of a reason only a few 1st teamers have come through (like most clubs tbf) is the lack of investment under Kassam in the Youth setup and then all that time in the Conference. The Lenagans then got interested in the Youth set up and did a good job starting to rebuild it and this has been accelerated under DE and then Tiger but that work will have a lag of years before impacting the 1st team. I reckon Sam Long and Callum O'Dowda can be put down to the Lenagan's investment whilst the current batch given pro contracts (Lopes, Spasov, Elechi, Lofthouse, James etc) is a mix of all of them but mostly the earlier investment.

Also, until this season we didn't have an u23 squad to bridge the gap between the Academy and the 1st team and that is a very big gap. Hopefully, the u23 team will do that job but we've already seen the likes of Spasov and Lopes make their debuts whilst others like Nico Jones, Owen James etc have been on the bench.

Sounds like Wallop could be that 20 goal a season man then that Bazzer’s been banging on about?

It’s a bit harsh to come on here spouting about a player and then getting mardy with people who generally know how hard it is for players to make the grade.
Henry Landers May, or May not be the answer to Oxford Uniteds striking woes, but you can be sure of one thing. If he has played quality football for as long as you say he has, then it is fair to say that he has been watched, coached, managed, assessed, graded and rejected by people much, much more qualified to make these decisions than terry from the dog and duck reserves.
If he hasn’t gone on to play professional football from there, then there is undoubtedly something that has held him back.
It’s not too late for him to make it but the odds are he isn’t good enough.
