Michael Appleton - Hibs manager

I’ll temper this thread again with the confirmation that he does need time. We’ve glossed over it a bit considering what some after, but Appleton’s first season here was a poor one and we were looking like relegation candidates for a good half of the season. As mentioned, it was only when he ‘accelerated his plan’ as he put it and chopped and changed things that we started to excel.

If you want an idea of the football we played under him, 20 minutes of goals from 2015-16 are a good indication of what we were about. We scored 100 goals in the season after too.

We weren’t afraid to get in the box, were we? And that Danny Hylton was a bit of a menace.

God I love the ac Milan away shirt. Can’t we just make it our permanent away colours?

Thanks for the replies lads. Hopefully he will do as good as you lot seem to think. From reading some articles where he is being interview, he seems like a genuinely nice guy! Seems well respected in the game, so hopefully that will bode well for us when it comes to signing players as I imagine be will have a few contacts in England.

Should we expect good attacking football? Seems to have had a good relationship with his players when at Oxford, so hoping for the same here.

Good luck to you mate. Enjoy the ride, he’s a top man.

Also if your side is winning 2-0 under Appleton they won’t sit back and take the 2-0 they’ll keep going for more goals. The best manager I’ve ever seen at Oxford by a million miles.Fast attacking passing football, even when you lose a game it will still be the best football you’ve ever seen.[/QUOT
Well you have clearly not seen many. Jim Smith 1984. Goals for......84...…….AND the old Championship. Absolutely no contest.

It’s thought Appleton may ask Derek Fazackerley to join him at Hibs. What is DF like as an assistant guys? If this comes to fruition of course.

Appreciate all the replies so far.

Like any club there needs to be good relationships from top to bottom for a manager to succeed, that is what we had at the time.

Well liked in the game (Steven Gerrard aside!) with bags of experience including in the England setup. He’s close to receiving a telegram from the Queen so not sure how likely he’d want yet another upheaval. He’s one down the pecking order here since Appleton left so it’s possible though if he fancies another tilt at number two.

"Fazza" has been a key part of the club since joined and is well regarded and connected in the game. But he's not on pennies either.

When I was doing my top Kassam attendances over 9000 in the last 20 years, something like half of them were during the three years Appleton was manager.

I'd love him to get the Hibs job, only because I couldn't bear to see him managing another League 1 team. I reckon whatever job he gets, if he's backed, he'll have success.

I would say its almost certain he'll join him at some stage.

I'm surprised Appleton hasn't landed a managers job sooner, or is his availability affected by the way he left Leicester?
