Who else thought that this was an absolutely brilliant adaption for TV?
The inspector was very well acted.
The evil criminal in it reminded me of a cross between Bill Sikes and Fagin.
Touching bit at the end too.
Let’s hope we get some more of these dramas

Didn't see it myself but have only heard good reports.
Maybe the BBC going back to doing what they do best. I remember as a child in the late 60s early 70s the Sunday teatime serial adaptations of various books.

I do too as I was at school 1966/71...Robinson Crusoe

Top series. Gripping. Great mix of characters to love, dislike and feel sorry for. And my wife cried, often.
I was teaching a guy in Crowthorne and he knew Ellie Bamber who attended Wellington College. She didn’t go to university but is well known as a very bright girl. It was thoroughly well acted throughout

Haven't seen this particular adaptation (but probably will when it reaches Netflix in the US!).....

.....but Javert is one of my all time favourite literary characters.

He's obviously the primary antagonist, but he isn't really a bad man. He doesn't have any particular vices, he's honest and honorable, he just holds a particularly oversimplified view of the world that obsessively drives, and eventually kills him. He's both someone to dislike and someone to feel sorry for, all rolled into one.

I chatted to Dominic West who played Jean Valjean in Les Miserables on a train between Oxford & Didcot just a few weeks back!!

Great series.
