Update on Singha and use of J’s Bar

The Blackbird is a proper pub.

Love the Bird pre-match myself but don’t get the music at full volume bit! Especially when the footies on the screens at full volume as well. The atmosphere/buzz is good enough without the music.

Agree with this, why put football on a huge projector and on 3 others screens and then leave music on? Also the music last Tuesday before the Barnsley game was the same 6 songs on repeat.

Another indication that no matter how nice we all are to uncle Firoz, we still get nothing.
I'm not wanting to defend Kassam, but I don't think the club have been particularly "nice" to him. The whole arbitration process seriously soured any potentially positive relationships, and the outcome and response to that has simply made things worse. He may have done an awful lot wrong over the years, but you can't really blame him for not bending over backwards to help the club in the current situation.

I think the relationship between the club and Kassam had soured long before the whole arbitration thing. Well, I say 'soured' but Kassam has NEVER had the good of the club at heart. We were (and are) a means for him to make money - full stop.

It has atmosphere but it is not a good pub. No decent beer, no food, cash only, rank toilets. I go there because I park in Blackbird Leys and have an hour to kill but it's more out of lack of options rather than choice.

It has a jukebox, you can put whatever you like on! Also, for big games it's nice to have the football on, but I don't want the commentary from Watford v Brighton blasting out before an Oxford game, would rather listen to some music in the background :)

I tried putting what I wanted on last Tuesday and like I said it was on a 6 song loop for some reason. Don't get me wrong, I'll continue to go in their because it's the best pre-match venue within walking distance.

In my experience of going to pubs at away games, whatever pubs I go into before matches they usually have the afternoon football on and switch it straight to music at the final whistle. People have a had a few drinks and more relaxed and likely to appreciate the music more at this point.

blackbird is a great pub, you even get pints in flimsy plastic glasses, Proper!

I believe it's the police who are responsible for designating pubs/bars /etc as away fans only on certain big games. Admit I'm not 100% aux fait with how it works currently, however id've thought @PC956S could provide the current info ?@SiHath .... unless your question is rhetorical?

We don’t stipulate home and away. If a larger fixture is on the horizon we may make contact with the owners and ask what their intention is. ie home or away. It’s up to them. Can’t see the bird ever being an away pub.... That would be a busy day.

I’m sure you’ll put on more staff?

Popped in J's pre-match. Well done to them -an alternative to drinking in the Quad or upstairs at the ground - and cheaper :=) Basic inside and very busy they had made an effort with good amount of staff behind the bar and had real ale (Loose Cannon brewery) always good for us old gits. Will go back.

Good effort. Which beer?
