Barnsley on Tuesday evening - Weather watch

There have been plenty of games that have been postponed on the day (another that wasn't mention was Forest away in the FA Cup) but my question was - have we ever played a game at home that was abandoned? I have watching the U's since the late 60's but can't recall this ever happening. Away from Oxford, I remember watching us playing on a lake in Cambridge and in a snowstorm at Goodison Park but both games were concluded. I think there was a game that was abandoned at half time at Mansfield but I don't recall this ever happening in a home game.
Bristol Rivers away was abandoned back in the early 80's just at the start of thecsecind half due to a waterlogged pitch.
Like you I can't remember any home games abandoned.

Lincoln City home....around 1982... Abandoned at Manor...early second half due to Fog.

We had a Boxing Day game cancelled just before kick off a few seasons ago if I remember correctly. Feel like it was against Burton or someone like that.

Kidderminster in the Conference for a 3pm Kick off. Snow. Coach got back at midnight.
What a day that was, my now ex Mrs phoned me 56 times to tell me how much of an A*****e I was, oh happy days.

Bradford at home, cloud burst at about 2 pm, someone came in the supporters club and said the game was off but we didn’t believe it, then we went outside, rivers of water of biblical proportions flowing down the London road, all that was missing was Moses.

Who was the game a season or two back in the fog, evening match, may have been Gillingham but can't remember. That should have been abandoned.

Rushden & Diamonds. Due to our club secretary refusing to get some pitch covers in during a cold snap as he had a weather spread sheet which assured us that they wouldn’t be needed, only for a big strip in front of the south stand to still be frozen over at lunchtime. We then had the youth team running up and down it and tipping bins of hot water on it to try to thaw it out, but the referee called it off early so as to give Rushden fans the opportunity to either turn around or not set off at all.

I remember that vividly because not only was everyone at the club bar Mr Brown saying for ages that the pitch wouldn’t thaw in time without covers taking the edge off, Chris Williams and I then had to put stickers over all of the match day programmes we’d printed that had the rearranged date on them, which took the pair of us so long that it became a battle to see who could hold back the tears longest.

No, YOU’RE crying.

And it was the only game in the entire football league to be cancelled on that day...remember coming into my dad's sitting room after both of us being out of radio/Internet contact and waiting for the scores on Soccer Saturday to see "P-P" to much consternation. Probably cost us a pretty penny that given the prospective crowd!

They had some weird ‘revenge’ if you will for that by calling their game off late on New Years Day that season too. I recall getting to the ground and Nick Harris telling us that the game was called off despite the secretary at R&D telling us on the phone that the game was on.

Days when the club’s cover-ups and cock-ups seemed much more innocent!

Bury (a) having stayed there on the previous night and Eastbourne (a) - played the morning match vs their fans on both occasions unlike the fancy dans who didn't fancy it in the afternoon ?. We did have to crack the ice on the puddles on the pitch with our studs in Bury mind.........

Yes! I travelled to that one too. We scrambled around looking for a potential game to go once we’d found out.

In the end we ended up at Eastbourne Town v Burgess Hill. Eastbourne Borough couldn’t get their pitch in order but the even lower ranked Eastbourne side could. I think there must’ve been 50-100 Oxford fans swelling the crowd that day for them.

There were 2 fog games that should have been called off that I remember at The Manor, first v Wimbledon, 83/4ish, then another against Bristol City in the early 90s. Couldn't see the halfway line in either of those games.

Am I misremembering, or did we score at the Cuckoo Lane End in the Bristol game but none of us in the London road could see it?
