Ricky Holmes

Mackies contract rewards him for the number of steps he makes in a match.
To enable him to meet the target, he wears a special Fitbit on his left hand.
You must have all noticed the most consistent body movement he makes in every game,he can regularly be seen raising his stretched out arms palms skywards—that’s to check
the he has reached the target and not to protest a decision.

Honestly, if we could, we should play the U23 team

I don't think that's possible. If I remember correctly from earlier, there's a fairly complex 'rule' regarding naming at least 10 of the outfield players from our last match day squad in this one.

The most bollox rule ever, if prem teams can use this competition to give young players game time then why can't we?

I don't think the rules are quite as rigid as previous years as you only need four players to meet their requirements now. From Wiki via the EFL website, the rules are:

For EFL Clubs
  • Minimum of four qualifying outfield players in their starting XI. A qualifying outfield player will be one who meets any of the following requirements:
    • Any player who started the previous or following first-team fixture
    • Any player who is in the top 10 players at the club, who have made the most starting appearances in league and domestic cup competitions that season
    • Any player with 40 or more first-team appearances in their career
    • Any player on loan from a Premier League club or any EFL Category One Academy club.
  • A club can play any eligible goalkeeper in the competition
So, for us it's pretty easy to make those requirements and play a number of youth teamers.

Can u23s out on loan to non league clubs be recalled for checkatrade matches? ....probably not, but the way the 'rules' change on an ongoing basis during the competition, who knows (shaun harvey excepted)?

Allowing spurs u21s to reschedule last month did OUFC no favours it certainly was a contributory factor to fatigue in the small first team squad.

Why was Bradbury sent on loan when we are so short of strikers? He may not be ready but surely it is better for him and the team than playing a centre half up front.
He is not ready for the 1st eleven.
Ran out of legs at home.

I guess the point is that he could at least come on and give us an option for the last ten minutes of a game. Clearly seen as too raw though.

Really? Dunno about that. Even if so, I’d happily he be on the bench along with selected others from the ‘18’s 23’s than having to resort to bringing on a 3rd choice Rb for the last 10 mins when chasing a goal.

Returning to the title of this thread.... are we going to see Ricky again this season?? Should we, could we cut our losses and return him and get a fit player in

I would think that with both Holmes and Carruthers the club is getting the best medical advice it can and will base their decisions on those.
Re Holmes , it appears that he has a persistent back injury which they don't seem to be able to fix. Let's hope for his sake that the news isn't as bad as it could be ....

Doesn’t sound great...KR to chat to him Thursday.

Could be looking for a striker x2, winger, holding midfielder...big January on the books

Yes, I too, got the impression that Holmes will be getting his dear John letter on Thursday.

Its a shame as hes a superb player
When he is fit, yes. But even in some of the games where we have managed to get him on the pitch, he has looked less than comfortable.
Given that we are going to have to scrap hard to try to avoid relegation, I'm not sure a player with a chronic condition that seems very difficult to mange is what we need. I'd be tempted to send him back and spend the wage on a player who can play more of a part (since I very much doubt that Holmes is going to have some sort of miracle recovery). Shame.

Robinson’s supposed to be having discussions with him tomorrow.
