There’s money to spend

You’re right about Browne. I would imagine Smith will be gone too.
Smith-Brown already gone then Smith and Browne

There are add ons for the Kemar Roofe transfer (international call up, promotion, and I think after playing a certain number of games) but there is no sell on clause. Told that at the start of this season by someone who would know. Our best option would be for Leeds to go up this year.

As far as the Darryl Eales charge goes, that is capped at a certain level based on the stage payments of the original transfer. It's all on public record.

Given this has come from you Colin, I suspect it is correct. If so, then that's a poor deal. Part of the OUFC business model should be to hope that one of the young starlets goes onto greater things and that we receive a % of the sell-on. With football transfer fees ever-increasing and this being where the real money is, then a 25% sell-on could be massive for clubs like ours. 25% of say £15m would be most welcome.

Can Oxvox folk who read this thread please ask this question of the club?

The question is, any money coming from Kemar Roofe whether it’s promotion appearances etc. Would you trust KR to invest it in the transfer market.

If we’ve failed to add a sell on for Roofe we really are incompetent.

Hope we are looking at walker currently on loan at Mansfield.

A 25% sell-on clause would've come at a price though, probably a much reduced initial transfer fee.
And to call it a poor deal assumes Roofe is sold. What if Leeds get promoted and he stays there clocking up more and more appearances.
Under those circumstances the deal starts to look pretty good and any sell-on clause would be worth 25% of f**k-all.

We also don't know how much we get if Leeds are promoted, how much once he gets X amount of appearances ect.

Thanks Colin.

Not surprised DE took the more money in the short term option. Shame because sooner or later I reckon Leeds will be getting a decent transfer fee for him whatever their situation.

1) If they don’t go up, a premiership could come in for him.

2) If they go up sooner or later he’ll move to another premier league team, or a big hitting hitting champ team if he doesn’t cut it.

Just can’t see him staying at Leeds forever, or Leeds letting his contract run down so he leaves on a free. Think a relatively safe bet is that he’ll eventually move on for at least a few million.

A few million? We sold him for that.
It'll be 7 or 8 at least.

IF he is sold in January then it'll be more then that. Premier league teams will pay over the odds for a goalscorer to try and keep them up. I reckon we'd be looking at 10-12 million in January.

I did say at least!☺

The chances of a footballer staying at one club for a number of seasons these days is very low, especially if said footballer is performing to a standard whereby he would attract interest from others.

Yes it’s capped. On transfer fees and instalments and any future transfers on all players.

Only someone with inside knowledge will know if that’s covered by the instalments on Roofe O’Dowda Johnson etc.

I don’t see a problem with Eales selling the club being owed £4million when he knows there was £4 million coming in on player sales under his watch.

If it isn’t covered by known money coming in, perhaps more arguable, but there’s the argument of for instance Nelson. When Eales was selling , he had a value but who knows what it is or was or will be ?

I agree the general point, but Leeds are 3 points clear heading into the New Year and on course for a £100m+ PL bonanza. Clubs in that position don't sell their top scorer in January. If they get there, Roofe will be at one of the biggest clubs in the PL outside of the top 6 - the attraction of Burnley, Southampton, Brighton etc will soon fade.

There is always a bit of game theory whether the club (Eales) sold Roofe for X with sell on clauses , or taken the money up front.

After his first season hardly getting played I’d say the club got a steal for what we sold him for. But two years later... Same with Johnson , it’s all a gamble how players evolve

It’s easy with hindsight to say we should have done transfers differently

You only have to go back a month or 2 and some leeds fans thought he was garbage, i cannot see any prem club taking him based on just a 1-2 month streak... as for goals to keep a prem club from the drop no chance.

I said very low not impossible. I’ll see your Simon Eastwood and raise you Ledson, Lundstram, Roofe, Johnson, Kane and soon....Nelson.

All a lot younger, and desperate to get game time by dropping, but all also fully aware we would only ever be a stepping stone. go the other way and we’ve been pretty lucky with players that want to commit for long deals. Beano, Wright, ruffels, Eastwood, joey

And his goal scoring record!
If you exclude the last 2 games we have been scoring quite a few and Whyte Henry and Browne have all scored a few.
Smith has been the problem not Mackie. Mackie has done what it said on the tin but Smith has not been as ready for first team football as most seemed to think, meaning that Mackie has had to play more than had been expected.
