Bristol Rovers game

DFO, Somthing Fans Officer? I can just about understand that on a non match day you would be on social media. But surely on a thr day of a high-profile game you would be better employed at the ground
I am at the ground and am on most home and away fixtures. Dedicated Football Officer.

The club must have really wanted their home kick off at 1pm! Perhaps Tiger has an early flight to catch :ROFLMAO:
hope whoever it was at OUFC who wanted & had the kick off moved to 1pm is pleased with that call...we're 0-2 down at home & theres still half an hour to play! .... what a brilliant idea it was to go for an early kick-off ...well done

Sarge I know u love a rant at the club, but that has f*****g no bearing on us losing at home to Bristol rovers, in fact we have lost the last 5 times to them at 3 pm so fair play for the club trying to break the duck [emoji6]

Still at least they announced the wall over the tannoy TWICE [emoji38][emoji38][emoji6]

I can see now why the game kicked off early, it was to allow the fighting in the car Parks to take place in daylight.
Much safer for those taking part, also for the police to be able to film and follow up at a later date.

Was there trouble?

Behind the fence end there was a group of about 20 to 30 children (hardly an exaggeration in that statement) who I think were Oxford fans. They were surrounded by police at the end of the game. I think they wanted to go unnoticed as some of them were covering their faces. However they were not very good at going unoticed as they all decided to wear the same clothes (stone Island) l!

Also on the roundabout(fence end).
Young and old.

Nice to know the stupid early kickoff, riot fence in full use, and 'advice' to pubs in Oxford, plus a huge police presence resulted in averting any crowd incidents isnt it?

or perhaps not:rolleyes:

sounds like what happened after the 2 nd leg semi final (paint pot trophy) at the breeze block V Millwall happened again today?

IF the away crowd had been kept back for 10 mins (at the aforementioned Millwall game AND today) maybe confrontations wouldntve happened?

Evidently early kick offs, riot fence in use, high police presence and 'advice' to pubs has NO effect

Do you know for a fact it didn’t help prevent it being much worse ?? There will always be some young wannabe pavement dancers at any game, I didn’t see any major disorder, nor did I hear of any in the city centre or elsewhere, so considering the amount of trouble in Bristol I’d say that’s gone fairly well, no ?

Surely you can only come to the conclusion those things have no effect if you know what would have happened if they hadn't been in place, which you can't know!

no, I dont know either way for a fact .... that said, IF a larger than usual , volatile away crowd were held back for 10 min or so after the final whistle, while the majority of home support exited the car park areas, which to me it seems to be the most logical approach, that then any groups of likely looking lads mustering in the vicinity, with possibly partaking in a spot of pavement dancing in mind, would be considerably easier to identify and therefore to police accordingly?

Alternatively, as confrontations did take place despite all the seemingly uneccessary obstacles designed to avert confrontations certainly appeared to fail in stopping any confrontations.

Wheras holding back the away crowd for ten min or so ( so the car parks clear considerably) it probably would have resulted in less people in the vicinity and any potential flash points or confrontations much easier to identify in advance and of course to police. Sensible and logical crowd management IMO would be much more effective. More so than how things were (mis) handled today Id guess?

I think it’s fairly obvious to identify any groups hanging around. And at the end of the day, if that’s what they are there for then they should be dealt with. Hard to say today was mishandled when u weren’t even there surely ? The aim is to improve the relationship between normal fans and tvp, thats from both sides. I think from that point of view today went well, there wasn’t massive ranks of I think the term is “robocops” I haven’t seen any comments of heavy handed ness. Like I said there will always be a minority looking to cause trouble, if they are identified as a minority and dealt with appropriately and the rest of normal fans can go about their match day largely unaffected with solutions like the wall, and even earlier kick offs limiting confrontation and police numbers then great.

I think with all of these things it is about minimising the chance of problems happening as opposed to being able to 100 percent stop them happening. The only way to do that would be to ban away fans which we can all agree is a bit extreme! I'm not against keeping away fans back in certain situations but that does not always stop issues either.
