Transfer News Jayden Stockley

Perhaps people forget that Oxfordshire is a very expensive place to live. If you were offered a place at say both Oxford and Fleetwood at the same wage, and you were a lad from oop norf, which would you take?

On the other hand, if you were from the south and/or west, that might sway it our way.

Where do Stockley and Eaves come from?

Wasn’t that the same for sercombe when we signed him from Exeter ? Or nelson when we got him from Plymouth? Or many many other that have joined us over the years in the same league as the one they left?
Hadn't we just been Promoted when we signed Nelson so were in the Division above Plymouth?

Meh minor details. We’re in the league above Exeter now [emoji6]. So definitely a step up

True, although there have also been cases like Ivan Toney and Omar bogle. Who when they went to high to quick ultimately had to drop to get game time back. Some players like Eastwood as well could easily choose to go higher, but are happy to be a regular at a club they really like

problem though is will Eastwood be going after seeing the list of players we're not signing :)

Possibly the reason why McAlaney went to Fleetwood and not come back to us.

It isn't all about money surely?
It is also about where he is likely to be playing next season .
So if 'this Indonesian guy's offers Championship wages but he gets an offer from say Blackburn where would you go?

Oxford United of course, we are special ???

They may want that, but they'll get nothing like it. If out of contract in the summer, Exeter know that they only have this one chance to cash in and most clubs haven't the money to be throwing around on someone they can pick up for nothing in 6 months. Sunderland could, but do they need him and would they look bigger assuming they are in the Championship next year? Peterborough are perhaps the most likely as they have a habit of collecting players beyond what they need, but not sure many others will be breaking the bank.

Of course though, it does depend on his value. £250,000 and a few clubs will jump in. £500,000 and upwards and we will see if Tiger really does have big plans for us or not.
We are in the same boat - think we sell Nelson to pay for the incoming in January

If we were in the running at that level then maybe there is a few quid coming into the club! Personally, I'd rather take a gamble on getting him or others in the summer than spending that kind of money now.

With all due respect to the posters who suggested we were linked with him, I’d be gobsmacked if we were even fishing in these waters. Out of our league I would’ve thought, not just financially, but also due to our league position

spot on there @yellowbow ..... Stockley is (currently) plying his trade in League 2 ;););)

Its a similar story to the summer, when we expressed an interest in various good players only to be shocked when money got discussed.

It reminds me of when Spurs "nearly" signed Ronaldinho etc.

There is simply no reason on earth why Stockley would come to a battle for mid table at best. None. So lets nip that in the bud.
