As Berliner has posted.

There never has been a 'last man' specific law, it's 'denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity'.

When I used to watch motd it was quite alarming how many pundits/ex players used to bang on about last man.
Maybe that’s it then. I can blame old jug ears and the patronising ( Linekar and Shearer ) but the challenge on Taylor was a sending off. a
Aldo maybe someone should let the refs know and yes I know the rule/law changed about a goal scoring opportunity and the difference with being brought down in not a goal scoring position.

I’m not convinced it was a red, probably need to see it again but there was a covering defender homing in on Taylor’s left and he didn’t have the ball under control. If it was a red it was one of those close calls.
The other defender was never going to get back. Taylor not having the ball under control is irrelevant. He was brought down before he had the chance to get it under control and for him that would have been incredibly easy. 100% a red card.
