Starts 11am Wednesday (4th Sept) in Manchester, a must win test for England, any other result and the Aussies retain the Ashes, as they are currently the holders.

Anderson is ruled out with his ongoing calf injury - according to BBC this is the England squad for the 4th Ashes Test :-
England squad for fourth Ashes Test against Australia: Joe Root (capt), Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler (wk), Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Jack Leach, Craig Overton, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes.

If we draw this and win the next we would win the series 2-1 and regain the ashes wouldn’t we?

Denly is going to open on Wednesday, with Roy going down the order.

Denly scheduled to open and Roy moved to #4...

...as one wag phrased it, like 'moving the deckchairs on the Titanic'.

The only saving grace is that the Australian top-order are an equal shower of basketcases, and are even talking about recalling chief waste-of-space Mitchell Marsh.

Will momentum be sustained throughout the rest of the summer, or will this be 'after the Lord Mayor's show'...?

It's too close to call IMHO. I'm nervous!

Can you see it Sarge?
shuffle the top order pack any which way but the results will be similar, until the England top order get into the mind set of test match batting , instead of limited overs cricket batting IMO

The way the top 4 have been batting, being down at 4 won’t feel a lot different for Roy anyway, he’ll only have time for a quick cup of tea before he’s in the middle. I loved Denly’s optimism, he said that Roy dropping down to 4 enables him to play his usual game as he’ll be facing the old ball. Sorry to sound so pessimistic but it’s about time the top 4 started to earn their corn rather than dancing around the order like they’re playing some sort of game of musical chairs.

Overton in for Woakes then.
We certainly have a bit of pace now

Reportedly, the selection of Overton and Curran was going to be based on the pitch, rather than a one in and one out for the sake of it

3pm breaking news (BBC) ... Overton replacing Woakes in the starting XI in (tomorrows) 4th Ashes test match

Interesting decision that we're essentially weakening a batting line up that was 67 all out. Would've preferred to see Curran.
