Ex Player Alex Rodriguez Gorrin

Whilst there is absolutely no denying that Sykes was terrible on Saturday, I have a problem with how is now being treated. Sykes came to this club as an attack minded midfielder, and that is basically where he has played whenever called upon. What he does have is a good engine and can get up and down the pitch. And it appears that this has meant KR wants to employ him on the pitch with defensive responsibilities, something he has never really had to do before. His best games have always been in the attacking areas, and his high press against MK Dons was impressive, but even in that game he did not have to do the defensive donkey work.

It takes time to convert such a player into a specialist centre midfielder, and whilst it is pretty basic stuff to track a runner if you haven't been trained to do it it doesn't come second nature. KR is very quick to criticise Sykes playing out of position, but has not been consistent with his failure to criticise Clare for his numerous errors as he is allowed to learn his new full back position, one which KR now seems to have given up with but still cannot see it being a failure. KR brought on Sykes to replace an attacking player. When he shuffled again with the next set of subs he pulled Sykes back into a Centre Mid position. He didn't need to, he could have used Forde or Mous in the Centre Mid role but chose to play Sykes there knowing he is inexperienced at the defensive need of this role at such a time when defensive qualities were an absolute must. I find KR's criticism here very harsh and is really deflecting from his own failure to not put his players in their proper positions and ones that he knows what job they can do.
As you point out he came as an attacking player. He is technically gifted for sure but I've been questioning for a while now his end product. I honestly think he has potential but he needs to add goals and assists to his game and I'm not convinced we are able to give him time to develop at the current time.

After Saturday's s**t show do you really think a win is likely? A draw would be a miracle IMHO.
Just trying to give a bit of perspective but he game before last we deserved a point away at Pompey in a battling performance.
There are plenty of surprise results in football every week (one of the reasons I love the game)
The bookies will have the odds about right, but if you are that certain of the result get a few quid on Ipswich.

I'm just sat quietly with a cuppa imagining the shitstorm on here when at 6:10 this evening KR announces the team news, starting with
"Easty in goal........"

Think it's a very tricky decision..on performance you'd think not but I think what most annoyed KR is that he didn't follow instructions. However we did swing between Slocombe and Buchel with Benji eventually getting the nod as it happens ..both only ok at lg 2 level which if you think there is nothing to choose between Easty and Jack ATM then why not give Simon a break.

So we forget all the excellent link up play down the right then Sykes Long Henry Agyei

Folk on here blame KR for throwing players under the bus then slate OUR OWN players and all because we lost to Swindon

Quite an important game though don't you think?
Also, people management is one of the basic parts of his job, people here are entitled to give their opinion on players.
Put simply, he needs to decide which code of management he follows, destroying his players in public or keeping everything behind closed doors, which is what he says he does, but clearly doesn't.

Oh come on what was the reaction on here when he informed us that there were a number of impending fathers among the squad + others going through other difficult issues?.
i fully agree people will give opinions on players but on here they do tend to surface after a defeat with calls for players to be elbowed binned off never wear a shirt again irrespective of past performances and if some had their way we would lose 4/5/6/players in an instant and all at a time when we've struggled to name a settled team.

I said after the game Saturday that KR did not send the team out to hoof it, fail to pass to a team mate and sit back for 20 minutes or so and we all have seen that is not how his teams play, it was not down to Mark Sykes or the 3 subs collectively as we win as a team and lose as a team.

it it was quite an important game but maybe just maybe that's what's led to much of the over the top criticism of individuals, players ,Mangement and recruitment team etc

I agree.
There are a number of players currently in our squad who would really benefit from playing for a manager who actually played to their strengths, and played them in their best positions.

What is Sykes best position?

Thats where I believe he has had his best performances , but he needs consistency not in and out performances .Still to be convinced

What is Sykes best position?

Right side of a front 3?
Which is where he has played most often. Occasionally he has been asked to tuck in, or play over on the left, but he is generally played in his favoured position but still inconsistent in his performance.
