National News The Brexit Thread 🇬🇧🇪🇺

It looks like NI will be back to 1973 quicker than that.
Surprised you didn’t add a smiley face after your comment.
Sounds like project fear to me.
You really do seem to enjoy highlighting the darkest side of most of the topics you comment upon.

You don't get this do you. You've been lied to.

If this were happening in London and not Londonderry it would be the headline story. I remember being incredibly sceptical of the likely success of any peace process given how ingrained the hatred was on both side and being truly amazed that the Good Friday Agreement brought this and proved to bring positive changes for folk in NI. This is so saddening. I hope it's only a flash in the pan (as it were). The alternative is unthinkable.

BBC News - Police attacked during fresh night of NI violence

I am amazed, even when considering the the level of hypocrisy shown by some on here, than after so many were falling over themselves to castigated the stutus attackers and the Clapham Common and Bristol rioters, that they are silent on what's happening in NI. Is it because some of Johnson's most barefaced Brexit lies are so near the heart of the catalyst for this?

Is this thread not about the consequences of Brexit?

It`s NI..... they don`t need an excuse and haven`t really stopped irrespective of Brexit.

It was acknowledged in a 2017 briefing that "paramilitaries are continuing to operate an informal criminal justice system, with a degree of political and legal impunity".

You don`t need any aspects of the fire triangle over there, the fire has never gone out.

And now with context.

I take it you have never visited NI?

The whole religion/sectarianism stuff doesn`t need any petrol.

Any excuse will do.

The difficulty they have now is there is almost a perfect 3 way split between Republicans, Unionists and the other sensible 33% who just want peace.

Religion holds less sway than it did.......... except to the extremists.

There is a long road to travel over there yet....

Poor Ursula............. Erdogan doesn`t rate women..... its a cultural thing..... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Maybe they are recruiting to plug the ££££`s gap?

Turkey aren`t joining the EU????

EH? - How did you draw that conclusion??? - that is just a bizarre (and really rather wrong) assumption, sorry :ROFLMAO:

Anyway, yes, you are absolutely right...the LAST thing the NI situation needs is any fuel to add to fires already smoldering.

But here we are with Bojo and his chumocracy doing exactly that. Because either they lack the capacity to fully understand, or more worryingly really care about, the consequences of their actions.

Boris has all the tact and diplomacy of a bull in a China shop as his disasterous and widely derided tenure as Foreign Secretary amply demonstrated. He does not have the first idea how he is going to improve that situation because he and his cabal lack any of the finer skills required (of say a Mo Mowlem or even dare I say(shhh) a Tony Blair(shhh) or even a Peter Mandleson(hissss)) to return the situation to where it was prior to the latest troubles, let alone improve all of Northern Ireland's lot in the medium to longer term.

I guess he could always ask what Churchill would do or think?
