International News Trumps parting gestures

Do you have any other proof that the same man was actually charged other than the criminal's own account? I can't see any media stories to back this up. It is also .unlikely the CPS would have passed on this information to him as there would be the issues of prejudice of a fair trial and the fact he's a criminal still under charge. His entire 'career' is based on a web of lies and prejudice, a man who has montised the currency of hate and done very well for himself in the process. You're one of the idiots enabling his racism, violence and hatred.

I wouldn't ban you because an argument has been lost but because you sympathise with and promote the views of a known racist and crook and that, by association, makes your views unwelcome here.
You won't find any, because there is none. Yet another grift by 'ol Waxy to extract more money from the feeble minded.

Wasted far too much time (2:15 am) watching the "debate" in the house for Trump's impeachment, and will go to bed now.
It is basically,
Every DEM: "The guys a f*****g tube. He spent years inciting these motherfuckers. Come on guys"
Every GOP: "Hey, there's only a few days to go, this is bitterness. He didn't actually say anything wrong in his speech if you look at it".

I knew it would be like that anyway.

Maybe one of our USA experts can explain what's actually going on - looks to me like they had a vote and are now debating? Maybe I missed something.

There seems to be a little of the conspiracy theorist to this or are you playing devil's advocate? So, who was potentially behind this 'carefully managed charade'? Is it true that many were carrying guns (some certainly were), after all, the carrying laws are somewhat stricter in Washington and you can't legally carry guns on at monuments (including prominent through-fares in this case. I'd agree that some people probably just followed the mob and didn't for a minute think of the wider implications, but not so the right wing vigilante groups (I don't like referring to them as 'militias', it confers a level of authority). We saw QAnon & 6MWE sweatshirts, these people didn't think they just on a protest walk.
Maybe Pelosi and Co or anyone wanting to make sure America can heal without a threat of him returning like Michael Myers and being divisive for the next 10 years? Im playing DA but it has clearly got very personal and there are lots out to "proper get him" and not just see him ride off into the sun. "say what you see"

The GOP Reps saying this is a time for reconciliation and this being divisive is some sweet hypocrisy. Where were they when Trump was telling lies to create division which led to the storming of the Capitol Building? Where was their calling for reconciliation, even just after the Election, not even before it?

I'm not advocating revenge if that is the motivation of Dems. I don't think it is for the vast majority of Dems, I think like those Republicans who have said they'll vote for impeachment with Dems; they feel that there should be consequences for threatening democracy with force and not fulfilling the oath the President makes to defend the Constitution.

Hmm, you might be over-thinking this. It didn’t need a stage-managed event, Trump and his Minions gave all the prompts that were needed. Of course it’s become personal and ole orange-face is responsible for the extent of it - the continual lies, insults and calls to action. It was never a country club atmosphere previously but he has dragged things down to the basest level.

Don't forget the people raising this motion were in the chamber that a mob of armed individuals were trying to get into - being sh#t-scared for your life can be known to make people take stronger action than they might otherwise do towards anyone who might be behind it

10 Republicans voting in favour of impeachment and 4 abstained. The resolution has enough to pass but it would have anyway without Republican votes.

232 voted in favour, 197 against and 4 Republicans abstained.

Edited for result.

According to Sky News whilst a 2/3s majority is needed for impeachment to be approved, only a simple majority i.e. 50.1% is needed to ban him from ever standing for office again, this might really suit the Republicans.

Worth it just for that

I think he has to be impeached/found guilty before the 2nd vote could take place iirc from what was on CNN but could be wrong.

You're not wrong.

Cocaine Mitch though has stated that they won't hold the Senate trial until after Biden's inauguration because there isn't time, and the senate needs to be concentrating its efforts now on a peaceful transition of power. Constitutional experts still seem to be split on whether you can hold an impeachment trial for someone who's already left office.

Reckon there's a fair chance that this goes next to the Supreme Court (whose job is interpreting the constitution) and they rule that there's no scope for a Senate impeachment trial for a former President. McConnell is probably counting on this as a way out for him and his fellow GOP Senators.

Hopefully, if it does go to the Supreme Court then they find it can go ahead. It is ambiguous so if nothing else will be interesting to follow.

I'm sure if impeachment fails, criminal proceedings of incitement to riot will be forthcoming for Trump and Giuliani.
