Whats everybodys views on giving Jack Stevens a chance, never let us down. Having seen every game in all competitions home and away, yes, Eastwood has had some very good games for us but quite a number of times has looked dodgy under pressure, not giving a lot of confidence to the defenders. If we bring in another keeper where does Stevens go, surely he wont be happy on the bench again.

remember Eastwood was 'back up ' keeper initially, he left , then came back eventually to claim the number 1 shirt

Jack Stevens is a decent keeper - few seasons ago, when on loan at CPF, he helped 'city progress a bit in the FA Cup...
give him a run of first team games I say , I reckon he'll do a great job

He's a good shot-stopper, however he is lacking in several areas.

I feel like a younger Premier league loanee will be more compatible with the style we're building, and likely to develop any weak spots over the course of the season.

I feel like Eastwood is unlikely to get any better at dealing with set pieces or playing out from the back, and is likely to give away 3-4 goals a season due to poor decision making.
The positives outweigh the negatives for me. We are a league one team. Look how much more solid we looked and indeed were when he came back from injury, both this season and last season.

and, when called upon, on rare occasions, Jack Stevens has stepped up and done well .... reminder ....

I like Stevens but we can't be relying on him right now if we're serious about challenging next season.

I'd personally replace him. Error-prone season and his performances (perhaps if his family are as suggested now up north) a significant factor. The mental side of the game is rather under appreciated generally, however I'd feel as if a new keeper would be hugely beneficial. I never felt 100% comfortable for much of the season with him which is strange.

Jack Stevens just needs to go and play games right now. Sitting on the bench for a League One side seeing the occasional U21 game will do him little in terms of improving.

Eastwood is like any other player. He is only in the team until someone better comes along which could have been Archer if we could have afforded him.
The fact that Stevens hasn't broken through suggests to me that he isn't good enough yet and probably needs to be loaned out.

Eastie is in my view remains a top six league 1 goalkeeper and most likely is one of the top 3 paid players at the club. These two factors and the fact that Stevens is still only 22 are probably the reasons its made it tough for him to breakthrough. Stevens has had his contract extended recently and this probably reflects not only his development but also the increasing maturity that comes at his age now especially in such a pivitol position.

I would not be surprised to Stevens given more of a chance and be more prominent in pre-season games and lets face it a keeper thats deemed homegrown playing for 1st team is loved by any club's match day fans when it happens.

Just as a post note, the clammer for the return of Archer is naive at best, ridiculed by Millwalls fans in his last season he had there, had little to do in the games he played for us and anyone that watched him warm up before our games would have had their head in their hands !

Three common themes in this thread:

- Eastwood has made the jersey his own and faces no real challenge.
- When Eastwood is injured, we recruit a loan/short term keeper over playing Stevens.
- Stevens needs regular game time to show his true value.

Solution - Make a loan keeper a part of our summer recruitment, and find a L2/National League loan for Stevens. Regular game time for Stevens, and a fresh challenger for Eastwood, and probably someone KR might utilise should he be needed.

I've been a big fan of Eastwood since his return to the club, but he hasn't looked the same since coming back from injury and he had three pretty poor games in the play-offs (part from the penalty save of course!). I'm not advocating Archer's return, I think he's even more vulnerable on set pieces, but someone of that ilk - who can sweep up behind the defence and has better distribution. And people are right here - he needs to have someone really pushing, someone who could conceivably take his place if form drops or injury strikes.

If he’s here next season it’s because in a covid world he couldn’t get a move anywhere nearer home. And even if that’s the case he won’t be staying any longer as he won’t sign a new deal, so will be off on a free next summer.

I am willing to bet my PS4 on it. Because I’m getting a PS5 before Christmas anyway.

I personally think that Eastwood has not been under any pressure since he has been at the Club,I would love to see someone like Jordan Archer sign for the Club this Summer to put real pressure on Eastwood, not sure Robinson has much Faith in Jack Steven's maybe he needs to go on loan to a League 2 Club as a Number 1 to gain experience and play regularly instead of sitting on the Bench at Oxford United in the knowledge that unless Eastwood gets injured during a Game or sent off he is not going to have any Game time,or another option would be to say to Eastwood that Steven's will be playing in the Caraboa Cup Games as realistically we are not going to win that and also play Steven's in the EFL Cup Games to give him some experience

I think the demise of a lot of keepers is because there’s little serious competition for their place and they do become too comfortable. Joe Hart was a good example, maybe de Gea now and maybe even Eastwood. It’s difficult though because you won’t get a near like for like who is happy to potentially play second fiddle for an entire season. I’d stick with Eastwood but try and upgrade the competition, maybe demote Stevens to third choice or as others have said loan him out.

Weirdly wanted easty to be given red in the playoff final, as that would have set everything up for Jack to have been the hero by saving the pen and then notching the winner Jimmy glass style

I was under the impression that Eastwood would be leaving at the end of the season anyway, what with his family moving back up north. Eastwood had a mare in the final, I've watched loads of football since its come back and I would say in the first few games that a high percentage of games were lost by goalkeeping errors.

Eastwood is still class and I hope he stays, If he does go I'd be happy to see Archer back, not as good a shot stopper, but some of his quick distribution from the back was the start of many our attacks.

I'd hate to be in a position when we are relying on the likes of Slocombe and Buschel when no matter how good we were in attack, there was never any confidence that they'd flap at a cross, give away a pen or just decide to pass the ball to an opposing forward!!!

Not sure who would be interested in him, hasn't covered himself in glory recently. Would he drop down to L2? Salford are after a keeper and obviously have the money, not sure of any other northerners that need a GK.

All day long. Looked a much better goalkeeper. Plus, his distribution was top notch.

Proper modern day goalie. Was concerned when we first signed him, but never let us down once which is impressive given the circumstances. Knows the squad too so that'd reduce the easing in process
